When DYI = Doing Good

Annual holiday tree cut scheduled at Boulder Lake this Saturday.

Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center (ELC), 7328 Boulder Dam Road, is inviting the community to cut their own Christmas trees and wreaths this Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at its Holiday Tree Cut. The harvesting takes place at the Learning Center’s Bear Paw and Blue Ox Trailhead.

“The Annual Holiday Tree cut encourages people to explore the woods, helps to thin a ladder fuel (balsam fir), and provides economic support to Boulder Lake ELC educational programming,” says Ryan Hueffmeier, director.

Participants can purchase a tree or a wreath for $15, or both for $25. Homemade chili will be available for $3 per cup, as well as complementary hot chocolate and cookies to be enjoyed by the fire.

All proceeds support educational programming at Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center. “Our mission is to provide programs like the Holiday Tree Cut that contribute to increased understanding and appreciation of natural resources management practices, and illustrate the many social, biological, and economic benefits of that forest,” explains Hueffmeier.
