Exploring Grammar

Professors of English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies and Math explore grammar together.

Which of these two sentences do you think is correct?

  1. Neither of the theories adequately explain the phenomena under analysis...
  2. Neither of the theories adequately explains the phenomena under analysis...

People disagree, and when people disagree, life gets interesting.

Chongwon Park, professor in English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies, used the empirical methods of computational linguistics to study the use of indefinite pronouns in the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) using statistical methods developed with Ron Regal, professor emeritus of Mathematics and Statistics.

Park brought those methods into dialogue with the pedagogical literature in Writing Studies [with his colleagues Elizabethada Wright, professor, and David Beard, associate professor, both from the Department of English, Linguistics, and Writing Studies] to help people understand how we match verbs with nouns in sentences.
