The best of both worlds

Kaliher enjoys drawing and painting. Pursuing a graphic design degree at UMD enabled her to turn her passion into a successful career.

When Antonia Kaliher (‘21) was touring colleges, she did not know what field she wanted to study. While on a campus visit at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), Kaliher's tour guide asked what kind of hobbies and interests she had. Kaliher shared how she loves to paint and draw little illustrations. Her guide suggested she look into becoming a graphic designer and to learn about the different graphic design programs offered at UMD.

Kaliher spent the night researching what a graphic designer was. She fell in love with how it would enable her to have an art career with a modern twist. Duluth’s mixture of the outdoors, its art scene, and sense of community also influenced her decision to pursue graphic design at UMD.

This same sense of community kept Kaliher in Duluth after graduation. She works as a freelance and contract graphic designer and runs Everyday Antonia Mae, an online shop that sells her artwork.

"The UMD Graphic Design program was the perfect place for me to spend 4 years learning skills necessary for my career, while also discovering who I am as a person. I loved the atmosphere the program provided for students to grow, and create personal connections with other classmates and our professors. I truly feel as though I had one of the best college experiences, and I would do it all over again if I could!" - Antonia Kaliher ('21)
