UMD ranked higher by U.S. news & world report

UMD was ranked sixth in the USNWR's Top Public Schools Among Midwest Regional Universities category and has higher rankings in other areas this year.

U.S. News and World Report magazine has released their fall 2022 rankings, and the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) was ranked among their lists for the best of the midwest’s Colleges and Universities.

UMD was ranked sixth in the U.S. News and World Report’s Top Public Schools Among Midwest Regional Universities category (moving up 2 places from last year), and was ranked 33 in their Best Midwest Regional Universities list (moving up 8 places from last year) and 14th in their Best Colleges for Veterans Among Regional Universities (Midwest) (moving up 2 places from last year).

“We’re proud of the recognition that the University of Minnesota Duluth has received from U.S. News and World Report,” said Interim Chancellor David McMillan. “These rankings help prospective students understand the quality educational experience they can receive at UMD.”

The U.S. News and World Report results reflect a wide variety of criteria, including graduation rates, indebtedness, faculty resources and expert opinion. For nearly 40 years, the rankings have been published to help high school students make informed decisions about what schools might provide the best educational resources for their needs. 

“We’ve improved our rankings in a number of areas, and that’s the result of hard work across the University,” said Interim Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Amy Hietapelto. “Our priority is student success and focusing on additional student support has resulted in improved graduation rates.”

In addition to the rankings highlighted above, the University of Minnesota Duluth earned multiple spots on U.S. News and World Report lists of 2022-2023 Best Colleges because of its high rankings, as shown here:
